Reading the thread...everyone has it all wrong, including France, yet oddly NeedHelp's "human rights are overrated" comment is close to the mark.

Here is one for the quants, the paradox of declining female happiness (inverse correlation between "the women's movement" and happiness). Please, everyone who is busy campaigning to "free women", leave it alone, it didn't work, next time don't. Thanks.

This looks like a good study. I'm going to print it off and read it tonight.
 
Simple answer:

1. If women are forced to cover themselves against their will, they are being oppressed.

2. If women want to cover themselves in order to fulfil what they believe to be a religious requirement, not allowing them to do so is also oppressive.
