Hey guys, this may seem like a silly question which depends on the person you ask. Either way, I am asking it. Here is my background and information about me, because I'm sure those will be the upcoming questions and I'd like to get any question out of the way before you get the chance to ask.

Is it too late to start studying for the December 2010 exam? Well, I started about 2 weeks ago. I've completed reading the Ethics and Economics schweser books, but that does not mean I am done reviewing their material. My summer job is an internship, but I have free time on my hands (about 30+ hrs a week). My course load this fall will be 18 credits with no part-time job. My courses will include a corporate finance class. With this information I have presented you, do you think it is too late to start really picking up my studying for the 2010 December exam?

Also, I have the 2010 Schweser books, but the 2009 videos and audio. Do you think it would be detrimental to use the 2009 video and audio opposed to buying the 2010 media?

I hope I didn't ask too much. Thanks in advance.

What is your educational background so far? (i.e. how much of the material will you be seeing for the first time?)

I've taken Financial and Managerial Accounting An A in both, Business Law class (although I don't think that will be covered much), Micro and Macro Economics an A and B+, Money and Banking with a B+, Calculus and Statistics B and A respectively, and I think that is all for the classes I've taken that would be on the exam. On a side note though, I have read multiple books concerning investments and alternative investments and I have a brief understanding of options and other derivatives. Also, my internship is in the finance industry at Merrill Lynch.

Anything else I need to include? I'm probably forgetting something.

I can't see that you'll have much difficulty (adequate preparation notwithstanding).

My background is much the same, without accounting.

of course it is not too late.

Tens of thousands of people who wrote the June CFA L1 worldwide are still desparately waiting for the results for another 2.5 more weeks, before those who do not pass to restart their study for December exam. I guess 4 months of study (From July 26th result day to December 4th exam day) should be good enough.

I'm was in a similar situation (wrote in June, accounting/finance background, started co-opin May, full time university from last Sept to Apr). I'd say you're actually pretty ahead in preparation. I'd leave ethics last since you'll probably forget a lot of it by December. Also, accounting is the hardest part of the exam and is drastically different from the debit/credit stuff in intro to financial accounting.

Thanks for all the help. I'll be registering for the December exam soon!

Jgills, its never too late. You are going completely fine. Just keep doing the questions in the CFA institute books, so you have an idea what you could expect on exam, more like exam-type questions (the MCQ ones).

Focus on Accounting, since you have not done that before.

The rest if you need more help, I always welcome queries. =)

You da man!!

I'm going to wait and take it in June. I am still an undergrad and my school informed me that I am off by 3 credits to be considered a senior; so I am not aloud to register for December according to the rules to enroll. It isn't all that bad though. A beneficial point of view is that I will have more time to finish some courses that will add to my knowledge base for the exam. Thanks for the responses though. Hearing what I've said, when do you think I should start preparing for June, and what study notes do you recommend? Schweser, Elan or other?
