WORKING ON MLK DAY!!

umm, there is President’s day…no Einstein day, but he gets enough press as it is with those posters of him with E=mc^2 on it…crazy haired freak.

President’s day honors “all presidents”, including Martin Van Buren and Dwight D. Eisenhower equally. It’s a bad argument. Einstein only revolutionized science as we know it. That’s all. No big deal.

einstein wasnt even an American, why would we give him a holiday? he also played a role in the atomic bomb creation. a role he regretted much of his life (per the nat geo doc i just watched), but anyways MLK deserves a holiday imho. without him, i bet Barack wouldnt be gettin ready for his big day tomorrow.

Actually, genius, Albert Einstein became an American citizen. Case in point–liberals don’t know their a*s from a hole in the ground.

Like kkent said, there’s a ton of people who’ve done more and don’t really have much recognition over it. What did MLK do that was so special?
Who’s to say that what he contributed to the civil rights movement was more important then say, inventing the light bulb (just an arbitrary example).
Either way, like I said before, they can call it MLK day or light bulb day, it doesn’t matter to me as long as it’s a day off.
Anyone who thinks he’s so damn special needs to get it through their head that he’s just another person, who had a prominent position in one of many movements in american history.

Yeah, if Einstein hadnt figured out the energy-mass equation someone else would have. If Al Gore hadnt invented the internet someone else would have.
You belong in the circus.

kkent, your whiteness is apparent. you also sound like an uptight republican.
MLK is special and he was not just another person. over time, he has come to represent a symbol of change through non-violent means. while he may have lived and died as a mortal, his reputation and legend continue in text books and elementary schools across the nation.

With all due respect, MLK, Jr. was one of literally hundreds of leaders of the civil rights movement during his time, and one of thousands during the 100 years following the Civil War. In fact, someone else would have stepped up as they already had–MLK, Jr. just had more press.
Again, no one is diminishing his accomplishments, but frankly, to allocate a national holiday to him is fine–to have people say it’s racist or ignorant for private companies to operate on this day is absurd on its face.

not many people have heard of the deeds of John Brown or A Hamilton because they are nowhere near the importance of the deeds of Martin the King. A Hamilton and John Brown over the King?!?!?

MLK knew that his assassination was inevitable if he kept pushing for civil rights. Yet, he chose to not back off. That alone is reason enough to honor the man. 99% of us would have cut a deal.
I do think though that his offsprings get importance for no reason.
