First, let me see if I understand this.

CFA Level I Curriculum 2006/2007 (395.00)
This comes with an outline that focuses on the subject topics covered within that year's respective exam.

Schweser/Stalla notes are modeled to focus their materials on the topics to be covered within that specific year.

So, are the texts fundamentally different from year to year, or do they just change the outline in order for you to focus on different subjects? If they are different to what extent are they different?

In addition, are the texts fundamentally different from one level to the next? Do the Level I texts cover the material more superficially than Level II or do they cover different material all together?

If I plan to take the 2007 CFA Level I test, would it be sufficient to buy 2006 texts and 2007 Schweser study notes? Is it possible to purchase the 2007 study outline produced by CFA from ebay?

Thanks in advance. Sorry if all this is a little unclear.

Buy the text books. Not the CFAI study notes or curriculum. The study notes change from year to year. The text may change, but they haven't changed since I looked at the 2005, 2006, and 2007 curriculum. Also, level II still uses some of the text content of level I, there's probably a third of it that's new. Basically, level I, if you look at the pages that you are required to study, doesn't go into much detail as level II does. At least that is my observation.

Thanks Killamanjaro,

Where is the list of the textbooks, from my understanding there are 8 textbooks?

Does the CFA take passages from textbooks and other sources in order to create the the "curriculum"?

From my understanding that is what they -- take passages from the textbooks and other sources -- I may be wrong.

If you go to the order page for CFA curriculum, there is a link to an alternative order form that will give you the list of books. I think it is indeed 8 books. You can take a look at the Level II curriculum also and see that the readings are taken from some of Level I books.
