Any third timers out there giving it another shot in December? I think Im trying one more time. Will most likely sign up sometime next week and then start cracking the books. This thing is pissing me off so Im thinking I buckle down, pass in December and move on from there. Interested in hearing from others in the same boat. Definitely need to encourage each other as well as others that are taking it for the 1st or 2nd or even the 4th or 5th.. etc. Willingness to stick the neck out and go through this speaks to your perseverence. Good luck to all and I look forward to the interaction.

Not me. I'd suggest you participate more on AF on this go round (only 39 posts), and change your approach to your preparation...

you can pass this thing. get focused. get scared of failing. study like you've never studied before. i think taking a bunch of tests and reviewing questions was the most helpful. when i failed, i focused on reading the material closely and only left myself 1.5 weeks or so to take tests. that was a huge mistake. since this will be your third time, the material should be fairly familiar, i would just bang out as many tests as possible starting in late october or earlier. i hope you pass in december and join us at level 2 for june. good luck

GBC I'm with you.

I have unsuccessfully written twice now. Neither time did I completely finish reviewing the material, let alone do any practice exams. I sincerely don't want to see that "FAIL" on my computer screen again next January.

Best of luck, to both of us.

So, what are you planning to do differently this time? I think it very much boils down to a motivational problem if you're doing a third attempt. Taco pin-points the core of the problem when s/he says: "Neither time did I completely finish reviewing the material, let alone do any practice exams." It is understandable to feel fed-up when you're tackling the same material again and again. Maybe ensuring you're working on current material and (or) participating in some sort of study program (to force you to focus on each study session) will do the trick.

Taco - the first time I took the exam was in 2004 and unfortunately had a lot of job issues where it did not allow me to completely focus. But realistically, I know I was not prepared as I did very few practice questions. This time around, I did a lot of questions (approx 2000) from the q-bank and scored around 70% on all of them. So I thought I had a good understanding of the concepts and how questions would be asked. However, I found the q-bank to be easier than the actual test. This time, I plan on doing more practice tests as I hear they are more like the real thing. (Unless someone says differently)

Wawa- to your point, motivation, discipline or focus is not a problem but for me. I think I just need to reinforce certain concepts and make sure I truly understand them.

The good thing is, we are not starting from ground zero with the material so I plan on rereading and doing the practice tests/concept checkers and to be more active on the board.

Good luck all

GBC - as Danteshek mentioned, I will also try and make this forum a frequent place I visit. It seems a high percentage of folks on this forum passed (both times that I failed).

I don't know if it is because of the back and forth questions, or if being on a CFA forum simply keeps it in your head that you have an exam coming soon, but either way it seems to hold true that AFers do well.

I'll be seeing you around.
