Congrats on the pass Afolabi27, but be careful what you wish for. You will find that level II is quite a bit more difficult. Make sure you don't sleep on L II you will do fine.

I looked through the 2008 Level II results thread a while back and only found 2 or 3 people who scored 10/10 >70. That's a lofty goal.

I honestly wish to achieve this, I started my Level 2 prep since..........-:0) It is tough I know, but I am determined. I need all the help from CFAI+Schweser+AF and the Grace of God.(amen)

Feel bad for the Dec. 09 L1'ers cause you know the CFAI is going to balance out the curve, no way 46% will pass!

Wow, you're cool man.

Congrats to all who passed! Those who didn't, you now know exactly what you've got to put into it for Dec '09. I failed in December and just took it as a learning experience.

Yeah, 46% is pretty high, but not outrageous and it could be strategic. Look, all the CFA exams matters is to pass all the 3 levels: that is the marginal probability of passing level 3. Right now we have marginal on level 1 which is high, but the equation is:

P(passing level 3) = P(passing level 1) * P(passing level 2 | passing level 2) * P(passing level 3 | passing level 2). In each exam level, we observe the conditional probabilities. With higher level passing score, CFAI could still maintain same level of marginal passing rate for all the 3 exams, by hardening on level 2 exam, or more likely on level 3. We can have a bit sense of this on results of 8/18. but more will be reflected on 2010 level 2 and 2011 level 3.

Passing or not passing on level 1 really doesn't matter much if the overall objective is the value of CFA designation.

So, let's look forward; level 2 may be a bit more challenging next year:). for those unlucky ones, you still have chance to ditch at the trench of level 2 next year.

46% wow. I wrote Dec 08 and it was something like 36% I think.

What was the pass rate in June 08?

I am surprised the Institute would allow a 46% pass rate, unless of course they are as usual being blinded by the almighty $$$

We all realize that the pass rate for level one could be 100% and the same number of people could pass level 3. You're missing the point. It would be nice if passing level 1 had a little meaning to it.

35 or 45 - same difference. 10% more L1 going on to L2 and L3 would mean 1-2% higher passing rate. Chillax.

I dotn really care about the pass rate, but what i wouldnt want 5 years later to happen is some job interviewing telling me, "Hmm, so you passed Level 1 in June '09, wasnt that the exam got easier and pass rates increased dramatically?"

a 70+ in each section sure feels good..
dont care if it was 3 choices..

and i still think that 50 & 70 r percentiles and not percentages..

I dont think that 46% or 36 % makes a difference ,please refer to the pass rates 5 years before it even reahed 60 % in some years and 50% pass rate was normal ,at the end all who passed level 1 did deserve it and if the exam was harder they would have passed also , it is a curve if all the candidates get below 60 % there is a percentage that will go to level 2 even with a 50% score ....

the problem with 3 choices are, it is way more difficult to differentiate candidates who are marginally good and marginally bad... which are majority of those who wrote the exam...

i think majority of AFer deserved to pass, as you guys are probably better than just marginally good,

CFA probably can't differentiate the marginally good and marginally bad ones, and do not want to discourage those deserving by failing them (avoiding Type II error), therefore, letting them pass altogether.
