I know this does not relate to any specific topic area, but I am wondering if anyone knows what kind of abbriveiations are acceptable for the written portion of the Level III exam. For instance…
DBP - defined benefit plans
DCP - defined contribution plans
TF - tradition finance
BF - behavioral finance
SAA - strategic assett allocation
Do the exam graders want everything written out so as to avoid any ambiguity with these kind of things, or will they know what you are trying to convey? Anyway, I just thought this would be of significance in terms of efficiency in getting through the written portion…outside of actually knowing your stuff :)

From that list, DC and DB plan wouldn’t be a risky abbrev to use. Maybe SAA and TAA if the question specifically asks regarding those. I wouldn’t risk it but if you insist on using abbrevs, I would define them at the beginning of the answer like:
“When comparing Strategic Asset allocation (SAA) and Tactical Asset Allocation (TAA)…”
Saves time and covers the bases. The graders are CFA charterholders so as long as you aren’t using your own made up terms and abbreviations you should be okay.
