Activate Your CFA Institute Membership!

Both the CFAI and my local society have approved my work experience. I’ve paid my dues. Am I able to use the three letters yet, or is there some type of official email that I have to wait for?
 
so it goes like this:
1) CFA approved your experience AND society either approved or 30 days passed with no action = you receive an email from CFA, you pay dues and wait till early september when the charters will be awarded.
basically, your wait period = (till early september or decision days remaining at society) WHICHEVER IS GREATER.
this is the sad part.
 
Nope. Need to wait to CFA shows up on your CFAI on-line profile. Allegedly, this will be 9/1/12.

What I find interesting is that in the email with results, they don’t say “you are not a charterholder until we give you our blessing on the website or email” or such. It simply says before being awarded the charter, you must become a regular member. Done. If I didn’t know better (i.e. a regular member on this site), I would assume I was able to use the letters. What indication do they give you that you have to wait for their seal of approval through an email?
Oh well. I have waited years for these letters, I can certainly wait another week or so. Kind of exciting. One of these days I am going to open the CFAI website and it will be official. I will probably just stare at it for a few minutes.
 
for me, on the CFA website for both parties (CFA and local society) it just says “Status - Work Experience Review”, but under “decision days remaining” it’s still blank for both after a week. is that normal? or do I need to do something else?
FYI - i submitted my application the afternoon of 8/17

I think you are still awaiting the outcome of the Institute review, there will not be any “decision days remaining” shown at this stage. Once the Institute’s review has finished, it will show the number of approved months in the first line, and then the second line (society review) will shown decision days remaining.
Basically the institute completes their review first, before the local society looks at it.
Like (probably) some others here, I thought “Oh, yay! This is it!” when I received the email to activate my regular membership… As it turns out, there is yet one more step to wait upon! Ah well, it is just a matter of time now, all the hurdles are cleared…

I am in the same boat as well. I also submitted my application on 8/17…still waiting for CFAI approval and all fields are blank. They must have received lot of applications over past couple of weeks as the approval time has gone up quite a bit.
 
You guys definitely deserve to be excited about finally being chartered - but look forward, getting the charter is just a beginning - being committed to financial career, you would have to keep learning - more self-disciplined way.

any recommendations of what to do after the charter?
 
Spoke to the Sydney Society yesterday. The committee meets on the 6th of September. So no point to keep checking till then.
The wait continues!
