My husband has been sponsored for CFA course by his bank which entices me to do it too as I work in a bank as well! We both have the same degrees MBA and Masters of Professional Accounting and we both are associate members of CPA.

I had a look at the stalla material and I am quite convinced that I am interested in doing CFA. I will be ordering the pack soon for myself, but can you please advise if there are any other sources that may be better than Stalla? I also need to know if I require classes for this. Though my knowledge from the courses and experience in Investment Banking is a bonus, but am not sure if it will suffice for CFA purposes??

My hubby is attending classes cause he is sponsored, however he can't be of much help to me, as he is busy travelling around the world for work more than 75% of the time and probably won't have enough time to update me with his learnings.

Can someone please advise me what should I do???

Is there anywhere I can retrieve past questions papers for CFA? If yes please lemme know where from?

From what i hear Schweser has a higher recommendation than Stalla. However I relied solely on Schweser and just failed the June exam. This time around i'm getting the CFA texts (you can get them second hand on EBAY or direct from the CFA themselves), sticking with Schweser (notes and question bank) as suspect it's more my fault i failed than theirs, and nearer the time will get the CFA1 tests from the CFA. Despite the fact that they are $50 a go from what i've read on here they are definitely worth it.

Thanks for your help Mojo, definately taken aboard!

I have completed studying Ethics chapter quite thoroughly to my knowledge visiting libraries etc..however, when attempting a past question paper (probably I was looking at a very outdated one) there were questions around shareholders and the board management , corporate governance that I did not come across in my readings ( am not talking about the funds policy mandates side) I am aware that a part of Ethics is taken to Level 2, however, I was hoping if you can tell me if its around the corporate governance part or not?

My only concern is that I hope I have'nt missed something in my readings. I hope I making sense in my above question. If not please let me know.

Tah!

corporate goverance isnt part of the ethics module. Its in the corporate finance part i believe.

Flip a coin and buy Stalla or Schweser. They are both fine products and appeal to different people. I like Stalla better and I like red wine better than white. Just get one start studying and discuss your studying on AF and you'll pass.

JoeyDVivre is right, just flip a coin in deciding weather stalla & schweser. For my case, I use Schweser & I use it as a back-up for those readings (chapters in each volume) in CFA materials that I find it very hard to understand (e.g. FSA readings of White et.al.).

I prefer red wine too especially the ones I tasted on my trip to Bordeaux in France....oh oh a bit of red herring from my side there :-)) Back to the topic -Stalla it is!

I like Stalla better too. Maybe it goes better with red wine.

As for Bordeaux, there is obviously some terrific wine from Bordeaux but I think the rest of the world is doing a really good job catching up for much less money. For example, I've had some "Super Tuscans" that taste just like great Bordeaux's to me for 1/2 the price or less. Obviously, you can impress the guests by bring out Lafite more than Nambrot, but it's not because Lafite is any better (well, I'm sure a '61 Lafite would be better and would impress me if you invited me for dinner).

"St Esteve" is the thing to drink if you want some red, St. Emillion is overrated IMHO
this being said I am a furious fan of white burgundy - Pouilly Fum and Pouilly Fum as well as a nice Puligny-Montrachet a great either with or without any food!

but then I am more of a Schweser girl as well, Sch is great for L1 and L2 (just add some problems form the CFAI text and you are fine) and slighter weaker for L3, but we will discuss your L3 requirements a bit later

Btw Australian red from Barossa Valley and Hunter Region are very fine! They go well with Aussie sea food, I miss that so much here in London :-)) Though mussells tasted a lot better in Italy. But in my opinion the fishes are not that tasty, not like Barramundi and Snapper.

I have already got Stalla now and the books look quite promising. They seem to be elaborate and explain things well . I got the flash cards with them too. What I did'nt get though is the pass master for the questions...now I was wondering if that is important.

Dipti, to answer the Qn on why you have seen Corp Gov questions as part of ethics sections in old papers....Corp Gov was part of ethics in 2006....from 2007 onwards corp gov is moved to FSA section....

Also, I think for Ethics & GIPS, You can download the PDF copies of Standards of Practice & GIPS from CFA institute website and they should be sufficient reading....ofcourse for practice Qn you might want to depend on Schweser or Stalla.

I used Stalla on Level 1 and got >70 on the heavily tested sections and a couple other sections. Heard good things about Schweser too, so think they both have good programs. I am a CPA and teach Becker, so with Stalla being an affiliated company, I may be a bit biased. I love the passmaster software and Peter Olinto knows the CFA inside and out.

Well for one, Schweser is cheaper than Stalla. I have the Schweser notes and QBank. I'm very pleased.

Thanks all! Is Peter Onlinto available in London? Or will I be able to liase with him over email?

How do I get in touch with him?

Thanx.

Peter Olinto is on the Stalla CD-Rom classes. He's based in NY
