Hi everyone,
Im new to AF wish I had known the site earlier!
Luckily I just passed the Level III CFA exam. Now Im seriously considering how to take my career to the next level. I have a BBA from a foreign country and an MS in accounting in the U.S. (both from prestigious universities). Im a CPA with four years of private accounting/financial reporting experience at less known companies. Honestly, I felt really bored with the mundane tasks I was given and would like to seek some advice on how to make the career move.
My dream job would entail performing rigorous financial analyses based on financial/economic data and industry trend, solving complex problems (for intellectual stimulation), limited direct contact with external customers (English is not my first language), the ability to maintain work/life balance ( <50 hours/week I can take lower pay for fewer hours worked), and minimal air travel.
I think buy-side research or corporate finance might be a good fit (not sure open to any advice). However, its difficult to get into these fields without relevant experience, not to mention Im currently on H1B visa which is an even bigger obstacle. Getting an MBA may be a way to start fresh, but Ive already taken over 80% (if not 90%) of the MBA-level courses while in college or graduate school. I dont think its value added will outweigh the costs (time, efforts, money, etc) - please correct me if Im wrong. Im also wondering what b-school I might be able to get in if I really have to take that route (GMAT: 710).
Thanks for reading through the post. Any constructive feedback would be greatly appreciated.
