Hi guys,
I have around 2 more years until I graduate with a B.comm in Finance. I’m getting conflicting information on whether I can register for and write the L1 June 2017. I was told that I’m only allowed to register for L2 once I’ve graduated. I would love to be able to register for the exam as soon as possible!
Thanks

Have you looked at CFA Institute website yet for the information that you need?

Yes, here is what I’m reading on the website:
To enroll in the CFA Program and register for your first Level I exam, you must have:
  • An international travel passport (read the ID policy) and
  • One of the following:
    • Undergraduate education: A bachelor’s (or equivalent) degree or be in the final year of your bachelor’s degree program (when you register for the Level II exam, you will be required to update your education information)
What I’m seeing here is that I need to be in my final year, which I’m not. However, I’m also seeing that I just need to have graduated by the time I register for level 2. Is it both? one or the other?
This is making it seem like I can register for L1 any time and just register for L2 when I graduate… which I’m hoping is the case, although it feels a little unlikely.

That’s a year from now and you have two years remaining – what’s the problem here?

So if I have one year remaining when I SIT for the exam, that’s all that matters regardless of when I register for it?

Can somebody provide me with a clear answer? So far 2 people have said/implied that I can register (1 on this forum and 1 friend) and 2 people have implied that I can’t.
I’ll ask again. So long as I register for an L1 exam that takes place within one year of me graduating, regardless if I register outside that one year range, can I still register?

I’m unsure and would recommend emailing CFA Institute for an exact answer. Explain your situation and they will tell you yes or no.
Going forward, I would recommend directing all questions like this to them. The forum and friends can be unreliable.
