For question 1, they are asking you to calculate the effective beta. Where on the page does it say that she shorted 25 futures?? The guideline answer isn’t making sense.

To lower the beta, Allison sold 25 December NASDAQ 100 futures contracts at $124,450

But the problem says “Allison sold NASDAQ 100 futures contracts at $124,450 on 25 December.
I took that to mean on December 25th she sold 100 futures contracts. UGH.

problem statement is directly from the question above …

I made the same mistake. How are we supposed to know that 25 December means number of futures shorted and not the date!

i think the usual convention is Month and Futures type - and date is usually not a part of it.
look at Exhibit 16 Pg 50 of the Alt Investments reading - June 200x, July 200x, Aug 200x futures….

This is a typo. A previous version of the mock stated
“To lower the beta, Allison sold 25 December NASDAQ 100 futures contracts at $124,450”
which makes sense, but the current version of the mock states,
“Allison sold NASDAQ 100 futures contracts at $124,450 on 25 December.”
Yet another CFAI screw-up.
