I am looking for a good book on -
i) bonds
ii) probability
that provide a good foundational understanding.

If anyone knows any good author, if there are any other great 'bible'-sorta books out there, pls spread the word...

P. S. I passed L1 with Schweser, was great material, but sometimes insufficient to really actually understand the core of the material cold. I am thinking of buying curriculum books for L2 (L1 as well), but I would also like to know if there are some great books outside CFA curriculum books.

There are gajillions of great books on both these things. There is no "bible" on either of them because there are great books at all different levels of sophistication. For example, there are books called things like "Intro to Probability" for a) high school students and undergraduates with no math background; b) undergraduates majoring in econ, psych, etc. with no calculus background; c) undergraduate math majors with calculus; d) graduate students and other quant-types with measure theory.

On bonds: Fixed Income Securities by Bruce Tuckman
Probability: CFAI's book is not bad plus examples are geared towards investment management.

i always thought the "bible" on bonds was the handbook of fixed income securities, edited by fabozzi. its about 1400 pages and tons of fun.

I concur

I don't think Fabozzi has even read that book. It's a reference book. Trying to learn FI stuff to supplement your CFA studeis with that book wouldn't work for all but the most driven, obsessed people.
