I completed my CFP(r) last summer and I am considering starting the CFA next year. I was wanting to get some CFP(r)'s opinions on how well they felt the investment section did of handling the basic (very basic) concepts for the CFA. Any insight would be great!
Thanks

I"m a CFP (in Canada) 8 years and what you learned in the CFP is helpful in the sense that it intro'd you to the concepts but the CFA is way beyond what the CFP courses cover, jmho

I have been a CFP for a couple of years. I can't remember exactly what the investment section was like on the CFP exam because my brain is still packed with level 1 CFA stuff, but it will provide the basics.

The CFP exam dealt much more with how all the pieces interacted....how investments affected taxes and insurance coverages and estate planning, ect.

The CFA exam is more focused and level one is more piecemeal in my opinion. It is my understanding that this changes at level 2 and 3.

If you really want to learn you might find it fun to prepare for the exam. At least until the last month, then it isn't so fun.

Neither is the wait for results.

Good luck.

Think of CFP investment section in terms as the picture of earth on "Google Earth".

The CFA is when you zoom in all the way so you can see your own house! That's the diifference in deatil, concept and analysis.
