Anybody know why they prohibited us from leaving early?

Maybe when 1/3 of the room starts getting up and leave, it makes the rest of the people still writting feel dumb? It shatters their confidence and is a distraction when all these ppl finished the exam with such ease while they are still going nuts on them.

Because the CFAI is eternally effing stupid. It’s 2016 and they’ve got us writing in booklets flipping back two to three pages to grab information out of a problem in order to then write out our GD answer. The goal is supposedly education but they give the test just once per year, forcing tons of candidates out of the program simply because if they failed they don’t want to forget all the useless BS they learned only to have to try to relearn it again 6 GD months later. They are creating an artificial barrier to higher ethics and knowledge in this industry with this program. I have often considered the possibility of not using their GD mark and instead just listing on my resume that I have passed all three exams but if I do pass then my job will want me to use the mark for marketing purposes. They will never get dues from me personally…ever, they’re lucky my employer pays.
I love when they send me surveys too, I just go off on them every time and give them negative answers and commentary.
I approve this message… it’s one thing to promulgate higher learning in finance, it’s another to do it by creating artificial barriers to obtaining the Chart (I say because Charter is so self-aggrandizing).
I get it they want to limit charterholders. Not sure I totally agree with every rule to do so, but I get it and do understand. Most likely, I’ll appreciate the CFAI’s tough policies in the future (hopefully I don’t become one of those the cranky CFA Charterholders that troll AF and angrily respond to anybody that suggests a pro-examtaker change…”I had to deal with people leaving, why do new test takers get silence!!!” *waves fist angrily at screen*)
What I don’t get is the fact it takes 10 weeks to get your result and 8 for L1 and L2 (which are scantron tests). I’m willing to endure all the onerous rules the CFA imposes, and be ok with them, but I’d love some reprocity in terms of getting the grades back faster and explaining any testing rules changes.
As I said, hopefully this is a moot point and I get the Band 11 (or higher) in 11 weeks.

To be honest you just sound like one of those people who have a complaint about absolutely everything. God forbid we need to answer our short answer question on a following page of an exam booklet - how on earth did I even make it through that exam having to navagate that mess!! Oh and going through the rigors of the 3 CFA exams only to not use the CFA designation is probably the stupidest thing I’ve read on this website. No one has forced you to take these exams or pay CFAI for their services. Get a grip. Maybe go outside and try to enjoy life a little, the world isn’t out to get you.
You must work for the institute or something to have gotten so butthurt over my comment. It is 2016 and I am using a pen and paper to take a fkking test when there are gradeschoolers learning from and taking exams on tablets and computers. And no, it’s not just one page it’s 2-3 pages in some instances that you have to flip back to pull the info you need. Another complaint is in my exam station they line our tables with cloth…careful not to fill your mc bubble in too hard on that idiotic surface or your pencil will go through it. At least they finally changed our location away from a place that had a marathon running around it every year, causing candidates to have to find their way through a maze of cop cars and runners to make it to the testing site.
the once yearly exam attempt is patently unfair, do you not agree with that statement at least?

I’m willing to bet that the reason why the rule is in place is because people complained about how distracting it is for people who leave early to stand up and walk out of the room.
If anything it backfired because a TON of people were getting up to use the bathroom just to get out the room after they were done early and there was much more traffice in and out of the room i was in.
Yes, I can see that people who are done early may hang around the bathroom or the water station instead of leaving. However, there’s a psychological benefit to candidates who do not finish early; they are less inclined to feel as though they are doing poorly due to others already being done and leaving.

I’m guessing you’re the kind of person who goes to a restaurant, eats 90% of your food, then complains to the manager about everything under the sun and demands that the meal be free.

Incorrect, I’m usually quite agreeable. Funny how this institute can turn a person from agreeable to disagreeable. See many others on this forum praising the awesome methods that they use to get people through this process?
I’m guessing you’re the type of person that apologizes to your wife/girlfriend even though you’re the cuckold.

Keep willingly participating in activities throughout your life and nagging to the world about how terrible they are. It’s a very logical strategy that will get you far.
