1. Goldman Sachs: the Culture of Success
by Lisa J. Endlich (Author)

2. Inside the Minds: Leading Investment Bankers -
Ibanking Heads from Merrill Lynch, Salomon, Deutsche Bank & More on the Art & Science of Investment Banking
by Aspatore Books (Author)

???

Just looking for feedback on either of these books. I'm looking at treating myself to some new reading post-level 1 exam.

I've heard really good things about the first one, but just stumbled upon the second one on Amazon. I'm hoping it would give me greater insight into what the hell it is these dudes do (on top of the limited knowledge I already have on IB).
Thanks.

I read the book on GS, and for the most part it was a fun read. I appreciated the author bringing to life the trials of some of the more storied leaders of the firm as well as more ordinary BSD's that it had. In a few spots the book was mired in descriptions of IB deals and mergers both went over my head so it get a little bothersome in spots. Overall Grade - B+ , mostly because of the subject more than anything else

I'll be treating myself to a bottle of bourbon and a cheeseburger after the exam.

for the Leading Bankers, DONT BUY IT, I AM FREAKING SERIOUS!!!

It is SIHT!!! REALLLLLLY...i can give it to u if u pay for shipping, it is just pure siht.

The biography on Sandy Weill was awesome. Of course the classics Monkey Businees, Liars Poker. FIASCO, When Genius Failed.

Just read Den of Theives by James B. Stewart. Good description of the insider trading scandals that occured in the wake of the late 70's and 80's LBO and takeover mania.

mit - why is it so shite? Is it simplistic or is it some yahoos claiming they have the inside track when they don't have a whiff or what?

So...Monkey Business is the way to go, huh? Is it all about scandals though? I want some meat and potatoes on IB.

I have read "The culture of success". In fact, I have bought this book. Nice, very nice, made my own conclusions. )))

Zimzim,

mit is right. I read a couple pages of inside the minds, investment bankers and couldn't take it anymore. I quit because I felt my brain was rotting. It is complete, utter, shite. It's basically the same thing as going to a pitch and hearing an MD gush about how great they are and how they are so focused on client service, blah, blah, blah. No value added knowledge. It will teach you nothing about banking except how much BS is involved.

Monkey Business is nothing about scandals - it came out well before the round of scandals.

But, while it's entertaining, it's a pretty poor review of IB life.

Kamasutra ?
I mean really, has anyone read it and not got busy imagining with the pics in it.
