I am currently subscribed to ZACKS research wizard. It is an awesome tool with so many criteria and options to choose from. I was wondering what others think of the service and how they are utilizing it. One of the CSRs in ZACKS told me there are many hedge funds using ZACKS. So there must be some quants out there utilizing the data. I will be happy to share some ideas. Any input will be greatly appreciated.

How much does it cost?

Does it have only U.S. stocks?

How deep is the data & how often is it updated?

I've heard of people using Zacks for their research, including quantitative research. I don't know how much it costs though. I heard that it was about $1000 per year, but could not find any confirmation of that price on their website.

I assumed that most of Zacks' clientele was retail and individual, rather than institutional.

$1,600/year for last 5 years of data, $2,800 for static data meaning every week it adds another new week of data

Yes only US stocks

Most updated weekly but some daily. Extremely user friendly tool, had a few glitches in the beginning but CSR was very helpful and resolved technical issues. You got so much data like PE, price changes analyst estimates, ratings st deviation of various data, volume, price, sales you name it.

My only problem is that I found some data to be missing, it is not alot only a few so I am in constant communication with them so tha they fix it.

I was wondering if anybody else is using it. I got good results from my portfolios.

Nope, I have been told, hedge funds subscribed to it also.

You said one of the customer service reps told you that, and I suppose that if there are at least 2+ hedge funds that subscribe to it, then it must be true that hedge funds do subscribe to Zacks Investment Research. You win.

Basically, the sense that I get is that a lot of the research they do is not necessarily primary, and things that you could get in better depth and timing of information if you subscribed to research from other banks. A case in point is that sometimes their research comes out 2-3 days later than other banks', and timing is everything when it comes to investing. That being said, the price point of Zacks Research may be more attractive to retail and institutional investors who don't have access or are unwilling to pay for brokerage research.

Would you please tell us what the alternatives of ZACKS? You seem to know alot. I only subscribed to ZACKS and I am paying only 1.6K, I have been told the institutional version is 15K and is more powerful.

Please comment.
