I'm buying the Scwheser notes and came across this book by Schweser: CFA Fundamentals: The Schweser Study Guide to Getting Started

Has anyone ever used or heard of this book?

I'm debating on buying it. I know alot of my Finance, Accounting and Economic skills are pretty weak and wonder if this is another supplement.

Thanks,

I did browse through the book once...I wasnt too impressed...maybe because I have Eco/Stats/Finance background...i think if you are new to this field, your better bet would be to grab good Intro Finance, Accounting and Economic text-books OR take some continuing education classes at a uni near you.

Thanks for the advice. I ordered the fsa book that CFAI recommends and my room mate has an econ book. May have to get a stats book too, haven't used it 3 or 4 years.

I don't think that you need to purchase that Fundamentals package. The Study notes themselves provide a brief introduction to certain sections like economics and FSA. Those sections might be enough. Besides, you've already got a lot to read. Try not to add any extra to that list.

better to get it right the first time around with all the necessary prep work than fail and regret later.

I just bought the book also. It gives another perspective on what I've already learned, plus there are practice questions. I think it'll be a great review tool before taking the exam.

I figure if there is something I can't grasp from the notes, than I can refer to the text book. Believe me, I have no intention of reading the book for "extra reading", simply as a supplement. Thanks for the advise!!!

Does the book go into much more detail on any of the subjects?

Its good book I am an MBA student I recommend this book though I have Engg. background

I got the book and DVD last year before signing up for the CFA.

I found the book was smaller than I expected. Their website is now showing a book with a different cover, so the current edition may be better than what I read.

The book was geat for subjects that are more academic, like economics. However, I found the DVD better for quant or anything involving calculations where they could show the steps (including how to use your calculator).

If you do get the DVD take notes or you won't remember anything. They also have self- tests on the DVD that are great for checking comprehension.

I had no business or finance education so this was important for me. It was also really great to master easy subjects like the causes of unemployment before undertaking more challenging material in the CFA.
