I live out on the east coast at the moment but I'm thinking a move might be in my best interest. I'm wondering how receptive companies are towards job seekers that don't live in the local city or surrounding area. Im particularly thinking about Calgary or Toronto. Can anyone share their experience or observations?

I faced a smilar situation. I was told by recruitor to try to get a friend that lives in the city with that address to put on your resume. Perhaps you could also activate a phone with the area code of that city....or just say f&&k it and move.

I just did it. From the Midwest to East Coast.

First contact head hunters, companies, etc. Set up interviews 5-7 weeks ahead.
Thursday & Friday's, 3 each day, and fly out there. The flight and hotel package
would be cheaper if you leave on a wednesday night or thursday morning on expedia if you book, 5-7 weeks ahead ($300-350 all in).

It tell the person you interviewed by that you are serious!
If you have a good resume, you should be fine. Really, you have to go out there anyway to find a place to live. I don't suggest doing that over the phone or internet alone...

my 2 cents

Yah, I'm lucky as I have a brother living in Calgary and friends I could stay with in Toronto if I had to. I appreciate the feedback smgardy and Zforce12000

as another soon to be expatriated bluenoser I also thank you for the advice!

It happened to me not too long ago from west coast to the east. I believe I only put down Toronto on my resume at the time without a specific address and phone number wasn't local.
