I have an offer to work in a BB i-bank in New York. How long should I expect to work in NY until I can transfer out into my home state?

seriously, what is this post about?

I dont mind working in NY, but my wife's family is in Texas and she would really like to get back as soon as possible. Just wondering how long it is required for associates to work in NY before being able to transfer out.

Are you talking about internally transferring to an equivalent position within your company? I think, and this is on a very general basis and there could be exceptions depending on who you're working for, that most companies have a minimum of 1 year before they'll let you transfer without it reflecting badly on you. Even then, a year is not that much time.

If your wife is demanding to move back to Texas as soon as possible, why not look into the job market down there as well? Why focus on working in NY for a short-while if you don't intend on staying in a position here for any meaningful length of time?

you could probably do it in a year. my office recently hired a guy from B of A in NY and he worked there for a year or so. internal transfer could be possible but a little tougher as they typically expect associates to be career path employees.

why do you need to work in NY to begin with? didn't you say you had gotten an offer in texas some time ago? if you have to start out in NY, i think it's safe to bring it up after you've finished your first year and have gotten your bonus...they'd rather work on relocating you than to lose you to a competitor. however, if this is an important issue, you might just want to see if you can get staffed in texas from the start
