Hello everyone. I’m not a CFA candidate, but I’ve come across this site several times while looking for information about VitalSource and their ebook platform. I see that many of you dislike the VitalSource platform and have problems consuming the books you’ve purchased. I had a mandatory book for one of my classes, and after using Bookshelf for a while I was fed up with it and decided to look for a better way. I did some research, and figured out how the VBK files worked. I’ve now written a program that allows converting those books to PDF directly, using the original VBK file instead of going through a virtual printer and such.
It should convert all recent CFA books to PDF, and it’ll convert the 2015 books to EPUB (because that’s how it’s delivered within the VBK file). The resulting file will be searchable, though may or may not work with text to speech depending on the original VBK. Some can be converted for viewing on an ebook reader, others may look a little bit weird (because each page is an image instead of text). To disuade piracy of converted books, the program inserts an invisible watermark that makes it clear who is doing the conversion, which would make sharing the files a bad idea. You can’t convert a book if you don’t own it.
Before I post a link to it, I want to guage interest, and see if there may be possible problems if I was to release it.
