does anybody know when the australian ibanks (Macquarie predominantly) and the US ibanks pay out their bonuses for analysts/associates in Sydney? how much was it last year?

I thought it all depends on your performance and the company performance?

I'm not in macquarie though but I thought all works pretty much the same...
your team gets money from the board and the your manager/ teamleader allocate
according to your performance.

normally it'll be 5~10% of your annual pay.

If not, plz correct me......coz that means I'll be ripped off..

Zegna,

I've been working in IB in Sydney for about 4 years or so but in a Euro Bank not MacBank or USBank. If you're front office you should be getting at least 50% to 80% of your salary as bonus if you're a valued analyst/associate (and some get much more). I work in Structured (Leveraged and Project) Finance though, generally CF (Corporate Finance/M&A) gets paid more but I'm not exactly sure what the BuySide and SellSide numbers are for research but I've heard they're pretty good right now.

Takumi, do you work in front office at an IB? 5 - 10% doesn't sound right unless your just starting out or maybe in the back office.

How many IBs are there in Sydney? I'm looking for a change in the next 6 to 18 months. Just curious what the market is like. Either way, I am moving there but I'm just trying to find out.

hi one2many, thanks for your input. do you know when these bonuses are paid? is it usually end june or december or some other time? cheers!

eazy, most us banks have a presence in sydney. some big, some small but i heard that hiring is really picking up. but that's not first hand information though!

Zegna, March for the previous calender year end, although EuroIB's can be different.

takumi...they are talking about banking. i have no idea where you get your numbers and information from, but please be mindful of the "advice" you give out.

Apologise first if there is any misrepresentation.

numi,
the number is what my manager told me, as far as I concern I am in a bank... and
the bank does have investment banking division, maybe they work totally different.
But yeah you are right, I'll be more careful on the reply i provide.

one2many,
yup you are right, I'm in the back office side and eurobank as well (there
are not that may eurobank in sydney...and not may of them offer backoffice services.)
if you happen to be in the same one and downstair...plz do not tell my manager,
I'm whining about the bonus..

myzegna,
soz if that mislead you....

Takumi,

Don't stress, no problem.

But for your information, IB generally means front office in some capacity (and excludes retail and commercial lending) whether it be Advisory/M&A, IB (including project, leveraged and structured tax), PE or IM. This obviously is not an exclusive list so posters don't get in a twist if I've missed your niche.

Some like to say that IB only involves M&A/Advisory but I tend to take a bit of a broader view although M&A/Advisory is probably (traditionally) the most glamorous IB role. However, now PE would probably be classified as the King, albeit debatable.

Thanks one2many. That really clarifies what IB is.

Are you in PE side of IB? I'm interested on this topic. Possible to learn more from you?
