Newbe, I posted the same thing a few weeks ago. I live in Boston, and checked out the program. I would not suggest doing it, only the little value the MSIM has would be in the Boston area, and you can not compete with the MBAandCFA applicants. In the end it's a costly and dressed up CFA prep course.
@Zforce12000 ..I live in Boston as well....I have been accepted to the program and another MBA program..I am in a dilemma...I see some opportunities to network and manage a real fund.... Do you know anyone who has graduated from the MSIM program ?
Newbe. I don't. I spoke directly to the advisors at BU. The techinical curriculum is similar to what you would learn in a CFA prep course, expect techniques, but you can get real world experience and not have to pay the tuition to get it. In the end an MBA might be more meaningful in the long run.
I'm in the same postion. what MBA programs have you applied/accepted to?
@Zforce...I have been accepted to BU MSIM, Babson and Bentley College...the problem is that , I have to register for classes soon...Bentley and Babson programs are starting in September .. not too much time to make a good decision.. I am starting to lean towards Bentley....They have great facilities e.g a state of art trading room....
newbe. If you got into the MS prorgram, why did you not apply for the BU MBA program ?The advisor said they admit under similar criteria. If you can get in there. I would go to BU.
I haven't decided yet. maybe BU or Tufts. I was debating UMASS, they have the Center of International Investments and Derivatives, which publishes a respected journal and during the program, student get to travel abroad and work on real international management projects.
From the students I spoke with and posts I have read. The program is tough and professors are great. The tuition is lower, but is not a bad thing? I have a professor from Bentley say that UMASS was a better program.
