I bought the Schweser notes and QBank today, but I also own the CFAI official books. Now that I have Schweser, should I sell my CFAI books, or do you think I will still need them?

I'd keep them.

1) Every candidate should have an official copy of the ethics and professional standards material; GIPS too.

2) Your original volumes may be valuable w/r/t clarifying topics you'll encounter in the notes and will offer additional practice problems.

3) I doubt you could expect to receive an attractive price for the books

4) Based on my experience at Level II this year, I felt CFAI targetted a few sections of the CBOK that Schweser addressed only lightly, so pass or fail, I'll definitely rely on the CFAI volumes more going forward to complement my Schweser notes.

4) They may serve as a handy desk-reference, and if a disgruntled colleague/client takes a shot at your w/ a small caliber weapon, they're probably thick enough to take the hit, thanks CFAI!

Is this the CFA study spread trade? How exactly do you short CFAI books anyway? Could you borrow them from your boss and sell them and return different ones to him after the exam? This thread makes no sense to me at all.

You are overthinking it. Here is what I did:

1. I bought the CFAI books and decided that I don't have enough time between now and December to cover 100% of the reading so then I:

2. Bought Schweser notes and QBank.

So now I'm asking if I can sell the CFAI books since I bought the notes from Schweser. Nothing technical about it.

If you can afford keeping them i would.

I did the same thing for the June 2007 and regretted it when i got close to the test, There are several areas were you will wish that you have more info which Schweser will not provide.

Hi,

I also have the schweser notes & Qbank and the CFA reading materials too but I don't intent to sell the CFA materials because for me those two are "partner in crimes" --> meaning, I use the schweser as a reading's (chapter's) summary and a buck-up for those readings that are truely brain tearing (e.g. Analysis of Income Taxes in FSA). In addition, and on the other hand, I find that some area in schweser are not thoroughly discussed and need a further explinations for me to understand some topic.

I hope it will helps you in deciding "weather or not" you will sell your CFA1 books.

Joey, it seems like no-one can take a joke anymore. I hope CFAI is happy making every miserable. I need to ask you some questions Joey, can you email me at [email protected]. Thanks

BTW, this thread doesnt make sense to me either. Why go through the hassle for a few bucks on something that is intrinsically valuable.

If the CFA stuff can be stripped and sold indivudually for a sum > the entire set, then go ahead.

ps: if you make any money out of this -please mail in my 20% .!

Spartan, I am in the same boat. If you are like me you are looking at the CFA books and thinking there is no way I can get through these books and still have proper time to test and review...I am planning on buying the schweser notes and q-bank and hanging onto the CFAI books as reference only. But if you feel the need, or can't afford to keep them, there is a return policy...you get a full refund on CFAI books if returned within 30 days (assuming you bought them from CFAI).

How about a CFA material swap where I provide you with the 07 LI Schweser notes in retun for the CFAI books?

I already bought the notes from Schweser... plus it came with QBank which I deem as necessary.

How much do you want for CFA material? I have schweser, but I do not have CFAI books..

Based on what the majority has suggested on this thread, I've decided to hang onto the official books.

minocfa: If you are looking to buy the official books on the cheap, look them up on eBay - they are selling in the $200s.

Actually, I will take the exam in June 08 and I think they will come free with registration. I would buy them if they were under 50 bucks or so..

Thanks anyway..

They will come with registration, but they won't be free...that is for sure.

$50 bucks? Thats funny. You won't find that price anywhere.

What are other downsides of CFAI book besides they are too lengthy? I have been reading CFAI books for some times. I started to get use to the style. At least, it should be good for my English after so much reading(second Language for me).
I bought a 7000 problem set from AllenResource which I use after each reading.
