I’ve been using the same bag for work since I graduated from school. It’s made by LL Bean. I’m looking to upgrade to something nicer. Any suggestions?
I’ve checked out some made by Orvis as well as Tumi. Also, what are your thoughts on leather? I prefer nylon.

i use a cheap “swiss army” messenger bag. i saw a couple of really nice bags at danier, roots canada and other brand-name shops. i might upgrade later but don’t really care enough at this point.

I carry a black Coach messenger bag that my gf got me. I don’t dare ask but apparently it’s more expensive than the suit on my back.

I have a leather Valextra messenger bag that I bought on a whim, but it’s too nice for me to use every day. Thus it’s on my shelf with original labels fully intact. Great bag but would not have bought it if it weren’t on sale. Still not sure what to do with it now.
My favorite messenger bag is this ballistic nylon bag by Tumi. I like something that can readily absorb wear and tear and is easy to clean. A good Tumi bag can be purchased on eBay or at a Tumi sale for like $90-150…definitely worth it, especially if it’s just for everyday purposes.
I agree with cfa2grunt about Hartmann – I don’t have a messenger bag but have a suit bag by them. It really whips the llama’s ass.

For me, a messenger bag just screams homosexuality. Not that there is anything wrong for being a homo, but you get what I mean.
I own a black brief case from Kenneth Cole, snagged it off ebay. Look up on there, you can get pretty good deals.

It depends … Is it more of a man purse or a satchel? You know Indiana Jones wore one …

it looks like this

dont laugh, and I carry it like a briefcase

If you think your bag is girly, just hold it in your hand with a straight arm instead of hanging it around your shoulder or tucking it under your arm.

^Awesome, it looks like it even has room for a pocket protector!

Yes there are a couple of little pockets in there for your cell and pens. But if you go with the Montblanc, I would get the double gusset.
There’s also a 2-digit combo lock on there. The strap is detachable, so you can either carry it like a briefcase w/o strap or wear it like a girly-man as a purse.

that’s a good look topher, I might need to upgrade.

Mine has a “smart” magnet for the umbrella pouch – if you leave it open by mistake the magnetic latch closes up by itself.

Exposed labels are ugly. I got a light brown leather bag for $80 in a small village in Ecuador. The guy I bought it from made it about five feet away from where I purchased it (they actually had rawhide hanging outside the store). I get compliments all the time on the bad – not too girly, not too tacky, and not too gaudy.
