Is there any recommended tutorial on how to use the Texas BA ii Plus Calculator?

I read the manual cover to cover and also did all of the example problems in the manual

If you’re planning to take the exam in June, take the advice of those above.
If you’re planning to take the exam this Saturday, you should either A.) pray, or B.) give up.

You have a better chance of passing by hiring someone to pass for you than praying.

The OP is taking it in June, seems like there’s no December exam over there.

Yeah! June 2014 exams. Thank you, i’ve taken note. And I’m happy I don’t have to pray! :P

  1. Turn it off;
  2. Put it away;
  3. Purchase a HP 12C.

I own both calculators. The reason I purchased a TI BAII professional was because the HP 12C took me anywhere of 1-8 or so seconds more to process equations. In particular, interest rate calculations have a tendency to take about 7 seconds to process and get the rate on the 12C. The BAII took me around 1.
Has anyone had experience like this? I prefer the usage of the 12C, but honestly it takes a few seconds extra to process and that bothers me. Maybe its just my calculator?

take the BAII, soak in lighter fluid, set ablaze.
buy 12C calculator, use it well, laugh proudly.

Haha.
None of you have had issues with the processing time of the 12C? If a question comes along with a big PV, FV, PMT, etc. and requires an interest rate calculation, it can take over 10 seconds. None of you ran into that or found it annoying?
I honestly find the interface much more simple with the 12C, but a bit worrysome. Just worrying that it lacks a feature (eg. cubed root) or might take all day processing an answer.
RPN doesn’t really bother me. If you’ve used excel its similar in motions.

Sounds like you have an original HP 12C (One with gold casing). The 12C Platinum is as fast as the BA II in terms of processing. The old 12c calculators do take a long time to process IRR and Interest rate calcs. I suggest getting a platinum even though the orginal ones look pretty stylish.

What’s wrong with BAII? I’ve got one, it does the job. I’m sure the 12C does it too.
In the end, everybody will use excel so yeah …

The 12C is just owned by people to look old school. It’s like a hipster CFA calculator. There is no way that’s a better calculator. I love my BAII.

I love the HP12C. How can you not love using a five memory register stack with RPN? I can’t use normal calculators anymore, they make me feel dirty.
That being said, don’t use a 12C*. The BAII is faster to pick up (12C has definitely got a learning curve, which could be much better spent learning the actual CFA material), and is actually better as it has a couple of small features the 12C doesn’t have.
*Caveat. If you are a big nerd (like me) you may get some enjoyment out of it, but even still the BAII is probably a more practical choice.
