I am just wondering if there is somebody from Calgary around here who want to share with me his/her experience in CFA program .

If so , please let me know .

Thank you in advance .

My experience w/ the CFA in Calgary has been great - save for the fact I've been living in this sh!thole of a town...

It bears repeating: The only problem with Calgary is that it's full of Calgarians.

Thank you for answer .

I sent you an e-mail .

why is Calgary a sh!thole? I visited there a few years, the view to the west is great, you get to see the Rockies. Only an hour's drive to the west and you're in Banff, and there's so many outdoors things to do on the way. I don't think it beats Vancouver, but it's in the top 3 Canadian cities to live in.

which locale in Canada would you prefer?

Notice everything you mentioned involved *leaving* the city; sure Banff is great the first 4 times you go...seems to lose its lustre after that. As far as "big city" aspects go, Calgary only has one of everything, and most of those seem obligatory (esp. wrt the arts scene); thre's no sense of community or nightlife beyond the same bars everywhere, and when we do try to congregate (witness the "red mile"), it's immediately shut down by police.

If you want to work 8-5, then rush home and spend the evening in (including fri/sat), then this is the city for you. Walking around downtown after 5:30, it's completely desolate (not to mention many stores/restaurants close at 6:00!) If you'd prefer to have a more enriched lifestyle, this town doesn't offer anything.

Vancouver/Toronto, for all the negatives people throw at them, at least are able to provide big-city comforts. Haven't yet been to Montreal, but plan to this summer, and I'll pass judgement after that.

Dude, you can't use this as a valid argument (at least if you're talking about downtown cores anywhere, cuz they're ALL like this. You should see the Loop/financial district of Chicago during an evening/weekend. It's a f*cking ghost town. Obviously, the same cannot be said for other parts, like Michigan Ave. or the touristy areas. The same would hold for TO, everything around King/Bay, etc is closed and you might see three people on the street, but Younge, up to Bloor or Queen West is hopping, cuz that's the entertainment district/touristy areas).

Obviously, Calgary doesn't have a lot of this "community" feeling cuz it's such a new/modern city that has really only come into it's own in the last ten years (pretty much doubled in population). I agree with you that it doesn't have that "big city" neighborhood kinda feeling yet, because for most of those res areas, they're really not that old and don't have much of a history yet. I think things in Calgary are only gonna get better as the crazy influx of money and people continues.

If you work 8-5 and are in finance, chances are you have a crap job anyways.

I have been in CowTown for 1.5 years and enjoy it. The people are generally down to earth, hard working, and you do not have to deal with that old money, patrician @#$%& attitude of the east finance scene.
