Hi all - Taking level 1 in Dec 06, and wanted to know what was the most efficient way to appoach my self-study..... Most seem to be using the CFA curriculum (lengthy), the Schweser notes (shorter), or combination of two. Can I use just the Schweser notes or similar alone?? Any sugesstions or tips would be appreciated.

Depends how familiar you are with the material.

If finance background, Schweser is good enough. If not or forgot most of the things, go with both.

Personally I feel, that you need to master all areas conceptually, never mind from which book . Do not depend only on schweser's question papers. Exam questions are very conceptual, and it does not imitate schweser or the sample exam on the CFA website. Don't take up any sample exams from CFA website. Its utter waste.

Please Search Before posting.. there are sooo many thread covering this topic..

IMO don't waste your money on books or schweser.. go onto ebay
and you can buy notes for 10$... thats all you need

Should we buying all the books and material mentioned in level I study guide along with Scheser material?

Pardon my incredulity, but are you kidding? Who wants to take that gamble? Anyone? I'll stick with my CFA-mandated curriculum, thank you very much.

I've seen some of the ebay material, it's not bad, but no proxy for the books.

I'm pretty sure he was being sarcastic :)

I passed Level I last June and am studying for Level II right now. I only used the Schweser notes and passed every section. I was an economics major in school, so a lot of the finance and accounting was new to me. So, I think it is safe to say the Schweser notes are enough. Also, all those text books are really expensive!

I have a BS in economics and MS finance, and Im going to be using a combination of 2005 Schweser notes and the ebay notes which I think are mostly similar to the ones from a.n.a.l.ys.t.no.te.s.com.

I should think that would be satisfactory for me for L1 (but I'll definatley be taking a different approach to L2).

I think using the CFA material is the safest bet. I was curious if reading the textboxes and footnotes are also necessary? And also, why does the CFA Institute provide a curriculum that uses a different calculator than the mandatory calculators.
