Bambi you trickster, more sarcasm huh....I'm not falling for it this time, no ma'am

IMP...where do you work? I'm a VP comfortable with my lot. I am satisfied.

However, I highly doubt you have a friend 10 years my junior who makes more than I do...

Sorry I cant add much more to it. I am not a professional career counselor, just tried to be helpful.

u got me
stop pulling a lady's leg...

Turkish,

Me or my friend? Hah.

He's a senior associate type at a boutique IB firm doing private equity (one level under VP). He has all of the regular stuff, co-invest, high salary, stock options, etc...

He is 29 years old and made approx $300k last year, all in (I know his girlfriend as well, she talks). He lucked out by getting in when they were assembling the team and landed a good size deal. Also, options were good.

The VP guy (about 40ish years old) at our firm made less than that. He is mediocre. I was there when he learned what his bonus was and saw his eyes water up and chin wrinkle. It was beautiful.

The thing is, he hasn't learned his lesson. Instead of leaving or doing good work in the past year, he has stayed away from making any real decisions, taking initiative or anything to warrant an increase in compensation. He thinks that he will benefit from the good work of the rest of the team/firm. He will be disappointed, but he is comfortable and satisfied with his lot. He won't rock the boat by rowing a bit faster. He will likely stay at his level for the rest of his career.

There is nothing wrong with that, I just wish that he wouldn't get in my way!

$300k, while impressive and very likely more than I will make at 29, isn't amazingly high.

It's more the point that this particular VP is mediocre.

By the way, when I said that he almost cried, that was when he saw his own bonus for last year. (it might not be clear from my post).

Imp,
He probably looked the way you did when your dad cut you off of your expected annual bonus. Is he still giving you free rent and paying your car insurance?

Funny fm.

My dad didn't cut my bonus, he cut off my finances while I was studying! That was years ago.

He doesn't supplement any of my living expenses.

Thanks for being a good sport. If we don't get a jab in here and there, this place will be no fun.
