Hi everybody, I m a freshman here.

My background is BSc in Applied Physics, MSc in Physics and now is the first year student of PhD in Electronics Engineering in UK. I am quite interested in IB jobs, but with quite a few finance knowledges before. Do I need to take the CFA qualification test or get another relevant finance degree? Wot should I in next three years to prepare for getting a job?

Many thanks for any advice...

Finish your PhD and try and complete your CFA at the same time. Then you can apply for quant jobs in IB.

And how will the CFA exactly help him finding a quant job?

EEphysics:

Dont ask these questions here. Go on wilmott.com instead. Simple answer is, read books. You dont need another degree.

CFA doesn't helpin getting a quant job. The math in the CFA is nothing compared to MFE or MMath.

thanks guys. The problem is that most of my work is experiment based not numerical based. so I am not that strong in numerical works. So I think maybe I m not that suitable to do quant jobs....that's the reason why I wanna take the CFA.

I you could make a killin in wall street if you get into something technically oriented , some kind of technical field in equity research. Do you program or have technical work experience? If equity research sounds good then im sure several of us would want to be in your shoes with a masters in Physics. Good luck.
