I'm interested in pursuing a career in PE. I have a B.Com option in Finance and I'm currently completing an accounting specialization. What are the paths to get into PE? I'm thinking about joining one of the big four's financial consultancy divisions after getting my CA and then moving on to an associate position at a PE arm of a pension fund. (I just wrote CFA level I in June, hopefully I passed)

Any ideas?

That would save me a great deal of work....

Right now is not the time to be getting into PE...The competition is sick because everyone with a degree from a top 10 school or with investment banking expereince is trying to get hired.

you would be competing against me, pal. please don't take my job

I think entry level positions are PE are not where you would get the big bucks. you basically start off as a number cruncher, long hours and the pay is not all the great. You dont get a share of the big pie.

The people who make the big bucks are folks with strong IB experience who move over to PE and decision making positions.

Well its just my opinion.. i might be very wrong.

Forget about getting into PE prior to MBA. Just try to work hard towards it, stand out in something that makes you different from everyone and then, get back to me, lol

If you want to get into PE, start at an i-banking firm as an indentured servant for two years in an analyst program and move on from there. If you talk with anyone in PE, this is the most common path. Throw a top 10 MBA school in there and you've got a golden ticket... You just have to give up your life for two years!
