A friend is interested in doing an MSc in Mathematical Trading & Finance with a view to getting a trading gig at the end of it. She already has CFA/CAIA. It costs GBP 20k. The course is run by Prof John Hatgioannides. Anyone got a view on it? Credible? Good investment? Or stinker?

And yes, she is cute...

a) Never heard of the school
b) Inappropriate shower pics in the frat house or she doesn't exist

There must be some brits here - come on, give me an opinion.

I don't know about this specifc MSc, but Cass has a pretty good reputation in London, unlike the City U of London from which it depends.

It's not as prestigious as the LSE or Oxbridge obviously, but Cass has strong links with financial employers in London. Although Cass students used to find work easily before the crisis, I don't know how it's changed in the last couple of years.

The thing is LSE and Oxbridge don't offer the breadth of courses in mathematical finance and trading that Cass do. The facilities and staff are top notch in my opinion. For the kind of specialist masters it offers, I don't think you will find a better college in the UK.

I agree. Not to mention the fact that courses at LSE and Oxbridge often tend to emphasize theory over practical applications. But reputation and prestige are also important factors to consider imo.

What is the placement record from this program? That's really more important than how broad or deep you think the classes are.
