Anybody else here has the horrific experience with bureaucrats at CFA institute re membership approval and charter

Not yet as am waiting a couple of months until I submit work experience. Sticking point may be a few months (relevant) corporate experience, which I have heard they hate. So looking forward to dealing with the bureacracy.

Well it took them 10 days to cancel a request in their system (that was missing 1yr of experience because i thought my experience was approved after l2 when they made me go through the same process). Of course, nothing has been done in the interim despite the fact that they knew about a new request and confirmed it via email. What a waste of time

Had a lot of trouble, had to cancel and submit twice which wasted a solid 2 weeks. Finally got experience approved now pending with the local society which has just sat on it for 2 weeks. I called them and they said they are backed up and it may still take another month!

I have found the whole process was extremely easy and quick - the CFAI literally took 2-3 days to approve my experience

You were lucky, I guess. Not the case for me. And customer service sucks. BTW its been another 6 days since the ttitanic work of updating the service request was done- still nothing changed for me. I guess its really complicated to review 2 positions i worked in for lat 7 years.

I have been awarded chartered recently and the whole process took only 18-20 days including sponsor’s feedback. Local society took only 2 days. i am very pleased with both CFA Institute and local society.

18 days sounds ok if you were doing everything from scratch. I had my experience and sponsor form approved last year - that wasn’t apparently enough so i had to do it again. Question is than why you (CFA Inst) made me do it a year in advance than if its’ of no use today? Like i said sound like some people are luckier than others. Local chapters meet monthly (larger ones anyway like Boston) and if you just missed their meeting - sol. All of that is the case for me

Had a lot of trouble. I couldn’t enter my work experience, so I had to send it in a word document. Then it took a week to attach my work experience. Then I couldn’t apply from my computer for some reasons, so they did apply for me but to the wrong society. Canceled the previous one and submitted to the correct society. Then work experience dates were wrong. Cancelled the previous one, submitted again. It took a month for the whole process, and it is being under work experience review. Hope it will get it done soon.

i just got mine yesterday. submitted on August 23rd i believe. CFAI was very quick—in a few days work experience etc was approved. the local society is where the backlog was.

: KRochelli,
Did you go through NYSAA, am still waiting for them submitted aug 24th!!!!!

LA is taking forever. I missed their Sept review by 2 days (so I am told) so my app is going through their early Oct review. They told me I would then have to wait until the local board meets at the end of Oct. Luckily (relatively speaking), the days remaining will end at the end of the 3rd week in Oct so that’s when I will be accepted and awarded the charter. Seems weird that based on the staggered timeframe of my app submission and their reviews/board meetings, that I’m waiting for the local society approval but in reality, it really doesn’t matter what they think since the clock will wind down before they approve me. Oh well.
