Now that we passed and if we are regular members of CFA and local chapter does this mean we hold the designation?
How do I know when I can begin using the letters! I earned them and I want to be able to use them as soon as possible. Please advise as how we can check on the website.

When you log into your account on CFAI website, you will see your name and then CFA after it (e.g. I’veBeenHad, CFA). That is when you can use the designation.

So what are the next steps here? I’ve been approved both for my local chapter and the CFA national membership. I just paid for both as well. I’ve had 92 months of work experience approved, and have my two sponsors. Obviously, I also passed all three tests.
Will the CFAI be contacting me, via mail, call, e-mail, etc? When can I use the designation?

Did you apply for membership at all?
If you didn’t, you need to apply and get your work experience approved. Once that is done, then you can use the CFA letters. This process will take a month or so.
I already applied and got all my approvals, and I am already a regular member. So I should be getting my CFA charterholder status in a day or two at most.

Just paid the CFAI Membership dues - $275.
Here comes the “CFA” letters

You need to wait for an email from CFAI congratulating you once again to become a charterholder or something like that - really long time ago for me.

same here - let me know when you get the email or see the ‘letters’

sure. I just got the access to CFA Membership directory and was playing around searching my old CFA friends :-)

Normally you get an email confirming award of the charter around beginning of September.

Here’s a point blank question, I passed all 3 exams and have had work experience approved and am a member of a local society. Can I use the designation starting now? I want that on my LinkedIN profile and on my email signature ASAP.

Stupid question of the day. I am obviously ecstatic I passsed level III but honestly never paid attention to next steps. Is there an application form I need to fill out. All I have done to date is register for the exams. I am pretty sure I qualify for everything and can get the sponsors but I can’t find the application to begin with. Can someone please tell me where I can find this on the CFA website? I searched the website with no luck. Thank you.

Last year, it took just under a month for the CFAI to notify me that I was official. The oversized charter on my wall says “…this first day of September, 2011.” It’s only a few weeks more…steady as she goes.
I did order my new cards right away so I would have them in-hand once I was awarded the charter but kept them in my desk drawer.

Not sure when this was updated last year (it only has the 2011 results), but I plan to check it in September for the 2012 results. http://www.newcfa.org/# you can search by name, pretty cool.

Were you already a regular member when you passed, or did you still have to join?

I was a regular member after L1 since I had enough experience and my employer paid for my dues. So my waiting experience after passing L3 does not include any time for membership review, which can take a while. My assumption was that the CFAI gets swamped with applications after the L3 results came out and I wanted to avoid that delay.

This took a bit longer to be updated with the 2011 results after September, as I recall. I think it actually came out in 2012 since, technically, there are people that can be awarded a charter in December if that’s when their work experience clicks over to four years or when their application for membership finally gets approved.

Great, thanks. I ask because I’m already a regular member and I had to have my work experience approved.
