Hi folks,
How is CFA as a credential for non finance (read as engineer with 3 years in IT) to make a switch into finance world? Also are there opportunity post each level and how would one approach towards the switch?

Actually it is of more value to you than a finance professional. The latter has experience and relevant resume to showcase skills, but an engineer may use a charter as a ticket to the industry.

It was serious to the extent that experience trumps charter any day. Why does a finance professional (experience spanning more than the required 4 years) need the CFA charter? To prove competence in the field of finance? It is merely for the prestige/recognition/marketing/promotion.
For an engineer the CFA charter would be proof of competence.

Opportunities post each level?
Level 1: Lets you sit for level 2
Level 2: Lets you sit for level 3
Level 3 (and work experience): Qualifies you to pay the annual membership fee
The charter is as good as how you translate what you learn into your work. There’s no formula such that CFA = X% increase in earnings or w/e.
