I am taking Level 1 in Dec. ‘12. Assuming I pass this Dec, do you think I’ll have enough time to study for Level 2 in June ‘13? I heard level 2 is the hardest. Should I give myself more time?

You should focus on L1 because its not a gimme either, after you pass it you will have 4mo of preparation which if you can study heavy and full time you can do it. A lot of people have done it.

Plenty of people have done the 3 levels in 18 months. Put your work obligations first. If you feel you have 500 hours in you from Feb to June outside of work, do it.

It’s doable. Plenty of people have done it, including myself. I wouldn’t recommend waiting until you receive L1 results to start studying for L2 though. If you feel like you passed L1, start studying for L2 at the beginning of January. I’m not sure what you are using to study, but Schweser gave me free access to the first book for L2 after I used them for L1.

done it with a newborn and a new job. I am sure you can do it too. Just have to manage your obligations / time intelligently

Training is nothing, will everything…the will to act…wish i had it llol

I did the same. I ordered my Schweser L2 books before even getting my results for L1. I was 150% sure I aced the L1 exam (and I was right with everyting over 70%). It gave me a headstart for L2 and it helped as L2 is a lot more challenging.

Concentrate on Level I and give yourself more time. Maybe—if you aren’t working. I know 18 months is a long time, but six months is just cutting it too tight to study all this material, and you don’t want to set yourself up for failure. I’m sure people have done it, but it’s hard, like you say, harder than the study notes people make it sound. I’m through a scant 20% of the curriculum on Level II, and there’s just no way I can see covering this depth of material adequately _and_ allowing time for sufficient review in 4-5 months. I’m glad I put it off a year and started studying early for the exam.

What is the suggested study hours for L2? From what I’ve gathered L1 is 300 and I feel that the 100 I’ve put in so far has me adequetely prepared. How does L2 compare?

First, I agree with everyone here concentrate on L1 there’s no point in thnking about L2 now when you haven’t passed L1.
Having said that and depending on your background and level of knowledge L2 could be done in summer. If you’re going to do this start early. Most L2 candidates are starting in November / December, so you really can’t afford to wait for your L1 results. I would go for L2 in summer if I were you and if you’re willing to put the effort in in the worst case you fail and have L2 again the following year which is exactly where you’ll be if you don’t.
Or you could shelve L2 for the next year and squeeze in CAIA L1 & 2 before that (or something else)
