Hi Guys

Well I read the code of ethics on how you report your status.

For the Resume:
CFA Level I Candidate: Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Institute

I am having diffculty on how to address CFA Level 1 Candidate in my Cover Letter!?

If someone has an idea on how i can fit it in... it would greatly appreciated...

Thanks

Who cares if you paid some money to become a candidate? You haven't accomplished anything except giving them a credit card number.

I totally agree... nothing more then my credit card number

but i am in Coop...which means one term school and one term work...

I am applying to private equity/ investment banking and etc job postings...

So i think it would be more helpful to add CFA Level 1 Candidate in contrast to not sayin anything..

If it's already on your resume, there is no need to add it to your cover letter as well.

exactly!!! and plus, CFA Institute says in the Code of Ethics something like: the value of participation in CFA Program and CFA charter shouldn't be exaggerated by members and candidates. Well, in reality, of course, CFA charter and candidacy (not in Level I) have some value and are recognized by employers, but these facts shouldn't be emphasized by members or candidates themselves

just say "you intend to further your education by completing the cfa program and are currently enrolled to write the next exam. " that meets all the cfa ethics requirements, assuming you are a candidate and enrolled to write the next exam, if not you can't say the word candidate

I am a candidate for the CFA program taking level 1 this dec-

is that not ethical?

You can probably state:

CFA Candidate
- Enrolled to take the Level 1 Chartered Financial Analyst exam in December (June) 2006 (2007).

But honestly, the above will mean very little to someone who actually understands the CFA charter, as you have not accomplished anything by simply registering for an exam.

"Level I candidate in the CFA Program" - that is what recomended (or requested) in Code of Standards of CFA Istitute. Nothing more

Even though ppl are claiming u havent accomplished much, the important thing is you have the goal of obtaining the charter and you are working towards it by registering for Level 1. If I was an employer, it would definitely mean something to me.

I work in investment banking and also participate in our campus and experienced hire recruiting. I suggest going no further than putting candidate on your resume. Any further attempt to focus on it indicates to us that your credentials are otherwise not competitive. Also, as mentioned before, being a candidate for level I is essentially meaningless, speaking from the investment bankng perspective.

I can also assure you that in the interveiw itself, if you were to bring it up, we would focus on the technical questions more than other interviews since we assume you must have attained some higher level of knowledge from your studies...we have to assume this since it is on your resume.

Use caution with your approach.

"why do people say, "write the exam."?"

Yeah, the people who put the exam together "write the exam". I plan to "take the exam."

I also dont get "sit for the exam." Well sure, I dont plan to stand for 6 hours...

lift vs. elevator
soda vs. soft drink vs. pop
couch vs. sofa vs. chesterfield
eskie vs. cooler
billion vs. 1000 million
write vs. take vs. sit vs. appear

Not everyone is from the same town in the midwest. There are different ways to use the same language.

EirajSohail,

It is true that being a level I candidate doesn't prove you have any competence in the field.

However, I think it can be useful in the way it shows you are interested and motivated to work in the field.

Personally, I use it in my CV's and cover letters.

I have successfully completed evening education in Finance in a reputable school here in Belgium, and I think writing I am a candidate in CFA level I demonstrates my continued interest in the field and desire to deepen my knowledge in finance.

Just be very clear that your enrollment in the program is very recent (in case you are registered for the june 2007 exam), otherwise, during a job interview, you might realize the potential employer had bigger expectations from you and he might loose interest in you if he is disappointed.

Hey Xa4

this is what i put in my CV inbetween a paragraph

"Furthermore, my pursuit of the Chartered Financial Analyst designation is yet another avenue that focuses my career towards the financial services industry."

I understand that I didnt do anything big by enrolling, But to me I look at it in 2 ways
I paid about 1500 dollars to write, register, book, cd, review session... and then the countless amount of time i have spent on it over 200 hours... that has to count for something...

thanks for you input & advice
