Hi AF Community!
Would like input from the community in regards to having a solid study plan for the December 2015 level 1 exam. The orginal plan was to do the exam in June, however, with work commitments, I had to defer the exam to December. I studied for about 2 months (mid-December 2014 to mid-February 2015) until I realized that doing the exam in June was not going to be ideal.
Therefore, the plan is to start back up in June 2015 which would give me approximately 6 months of studying. I will have 4 full weeks off for the exam prior to the exam.
I am using Elan / Wiley materials which includes questions, study guides, 11th hour guide and videos and I will use CFAI materials for EOCs especially and to at least read the BB as well as online materials. Wiley is also offering a question bank and live course leading up to the exam.
I found the first go around I was quite overwhelmed with the amount of material. I figured to have balanced studying. There is approximately 22 weeks from when I plan to start my studying to the point I will be off for the exam, so at an average of 15 hours per week, that would mean approximately 330 hours and then I’ll have 1 full month off for review and practice exams. My plan is to do 6-8 hours of prep during the week and 10-12 hours during the weekend (I know these numbers don’t exactly add up to 15 hours per week, but it will depend on how the weeks are structured to hit 15 hours per week).
Would really appreciate the input from the community. I do have a finance and accounting academic and professional background which should be a big plus I hope! Would really like to be well prepared to conquer level 1 in December!

I was a Dec L1 taker and started studying in May. Starting that early let’s you take your time. I read the entire CFAI curriculum cover to cover doing all EOCs and highlighting. Then, went cover to cover again reading only highlights but doing all EOCs again. Then went into review mode and did two mocks and studied Schweser Secret Sauce. Passed w/ above 70 in all topics.

Thank you for the info! If I may ask, with a 7 month study plan you did, how many hours per week did you put into the process on average?

Averaged probably about 1 hour per day on weekdays and then 3-4 per day on weekend days. So, I probably averaged 12-13 hours per week. Ended up with something like 360 hours total.

I am in the same boat but I am in school right now so I can study for about 20-30 hours a week, I have bought CFA Official curriculum. If anybody can tell me please that should I study something in parallel with the official material to prepare smarter or should I just make notes in official material and practice the problems which are available in text.

I used q bank only and the cfai mock.
Didn’t open any other books at all. Q bank basically has all the los listed with some notes and stuff like online flash cards. quick and to the point.
did 4567 problems + mock and I was set to go.
