Exam day is about 7 months away now and I was wondering what’s your plan on prepping for this exam? Breaking down the topics into sections we have:
1) Ethics: 10-15%
2) Quant: 5-10%
3) Economics/Financial Reporting: 20-30%
4) Port mngt/Corp Fin: 10-20%
5) Fixed/Equity Securities: 25-45%
6) Alt/Derivative Investments: 10-25%
Which sections would you hit first? How many weeks would you spend on each section?
Have you prepared a timeline on the sections or are you just going straight through the material?

Right now I am thinking:
  • start in early to mid November
  • Start with Quant and hit everything else in order, finishing up with ethics last
  • Devote about 10 study days for most sections, 15 study days for bigger sections like FRA, and 20 study days for Equity. You never know how long it will take for each topic but those estimates are conservative and some topics will probably be adjusted downward as I go through them
  • I have found that I am more successful when I add structure to my study plan and then tweak as I go. There is just too much material for me to succeed and take a general approach

I would actually start ethics early, late in the game isn’t really an option on that one, its a slow burner.

i held off ethics for last in L1 and it worked well. Its all memorization so hitting it too early might cause an issue for some people. I dont think the order of topics is too important realistically

When I took L1 I figured how many pages there were in the sections then used my pages per hour to determine how long it would take me to do each section. I will prob do the same again as my goal is to finish the readings 6-8 weeks before exam day and that really helped me keep on track day by day. I think i’m following the same path as TE600 on this one. I already started with Quant this time around and i’ll probably go into FRA/Econ next. I landed in the second bracket for ethics for L1, so reviewing it near the end sounds like a solid idea because it will keep it fresh in my mind on exam day.
