Hi,
Can someone who has passed CFA Level I and achieved greater than 70% in each category state on their CV the following:
‘Passed CFA Level I in June 2012 at first attempt with a score of greater than 70% in all topics’
This is factually correct but I just haven’t seen any information about how you can state the ‘topics’ information on your CV.
Thanks,
CFAiming

You certainly can, but I wouldn’t recommend it. First, you’ll make it look as if you think it’s a big achievement. Second, it may appear that you’re trying to imply superior knowledge or skills. Someone who doesn’t agree with those points could take issue. And overall, it will draw unnecessary attention to a qualification that is widely regarded as binary.
For full disclosure, I did get above 70% in all sections this June, was quite proud about it, but decided to never even bring it up, let alone put it on my resume.

I think it sounds like you are trying to imply superior knowledge by trying to differentiate yourself from other passing candidates. The exact reason why the CFAI gives so little resolution on score is because of just this point, and that they see “passing” candidates all as deemed to be as worthy as the next candidate in progressing their bid to earn the charter.
I also think this is slightly different from saying that you passed each exam first go, as it specifically tackles the content of the exam, rather than the fact that you passed each first time.

I think employers would laugh at you, especially if a Charterholder is reviewing your resume. The whole point of the CFAI not providing numerical scores is to prevent things like this from happening. I would seriously advise against it. It just makes you look arrogant.

I disagree. Make you sure underline & bold the words “first attempt”
And to add gold stars on both sides of: >70% in all topics
Way too many people have passed L1, you got to differentiate yourself.

That’s true iteracom, didn’t think of it that way. I would also increase font size only for that one sentence.

I think it’s some kind of boasting. You dont know exactly your score. A candidate get

Just say you passed level 1, that’s it. I agree with orang3eph, it actually makes you look dumber I think for considering it such a large achievement. Don’t get me wrong, it is good and you should be proud of it, but it doesn’t belong on your CV.

Thanks all for your feedback - all duly noted. Just a few points:
I wasn’t going to put it on my CV until a Fund Manager pointed it out and was impressed. This person actually doesn’t have the CFA but obviously sees the majority (if not almost all) of CVs come their way with some kind of CFA qualification on it. Maybe a charterholder would feel different.
Some people could call it boasting/arrogant (I don’t feel it is in the first place) but there is no need to be modest when drawing up your CV IMHO. Is putting down on your CV that you passed first time the CFA exams all first time boasting/arrogant? As the paragraph above I want to impress on my CV.
I am not sure how you could be implying that you have superior knowledge or skills by stating these facts. Surely it is the same kind of thing as stating that you passed the CFA first time.
I have decided not to put it in on my CV due to the possibility that I cannot see any reference to it in the CFA literature and do not want to infringe their terms especially as I take on the point that the CFA is a binary pass/fail result (although stating that you passed it first time actually detracts from this). Plus it could rub people up the wrong way as it obviously has done and I could have probably more to possibly lose than gain. .. I will put it on my business card, email signature and house front door instead.

haha well played and also think you shouldn’t put it on your resume

I passed 8 out 10 greater than 70. Me proud.
I promptly went to the nearest tattoo parlor on Bleecker Street and inked CFA Level II Candidate on my back.

“Plus it could rub people up the wrong way” - Hitting the nail on the head.
