some one who is entering to the world of finance hoping to advance him self to PM status......

ACA - chartered accountant - UK

Unless you're lazy you'll do both. Also based upon your numerous posts, you appear to be obsessed with the "PM" title, but don't really understand what it is. Perhaps you should research that first.

I think the ACA would come in handy if you were to become a Chartered Accountant...

I am quite aware of the porfolio manage title....

but its not about being lazy....i have honours degree in accounting and finance...so would not see why i should do ACA and CFA......but if you can explain a reason....they i may have look at it.

i thought after the CFA....an MBA or Msc would be appropriate.

any thoughts anyone

Frankly, everyone I know who is a PM simply wouldn't be asking these questions. PM's are in charge of making fast decisions on the basis of imperfect information. This 'should I pursue a CFA or an ACA or an MBA or an M.Sc. or...' is silly. A PM needs talent and aptitude more than any particular letters after their name. All of these certifications are fine. Just pick the one that looks like the most appealing to you, start doing it, and see where it leads you. It probably won't be to a PM position, but it probably will be to someplace where you will be happier.

"PM's are in charge of making fast decisions" ever met a value manager?
