I gave my CFA Level 2 in June, 2012. Couple of days back I received a letter from the CFA Institute regarding a violation of Professional Conduct Statement from my side. It states that I brought a ruler to the examination. It also states that although my conduct was a violation of the 2012 December CFA Examination Rules and Regulations, the PCP has determined that no formal inquiry into this matter is warranted.
Please can anyone tell me whether it would affect my examination result (May be delay the result)??
 
No formal query = nothing to worry about. You’re fine mate.
CFAI issues hundreds of these cautions each exam. No investigation will be commenced as it’s small stuff like bringing food, correction fluid, or in your case ruler. Just to officially frown on you. :)
 
First off, congrats on getting off with a warning. I’ll bet that gets the blood pressure up.
But just a question-did you have a ruler? If so, did you see it is actually one of the items specifically prohibited? Finally, given there’s no measuring on Level II and the edge of a calculator works fine for underlining, what could you possibly need/think you would need a ruler for on Level II?
 
This is an interesting topic. I asked two different proctors about using a pen on the actual exam but filling out the scantron with pencil. I was given two conflicting answers. I played it safe and just used a pencial, however, I was never able to get a clear answer as to why or if you can work with pens on the actual test.
I only asked because I pretty much break every pencil i use. All jokes aside, I had to buy the thickest lead possible.
 
Are these PCP letters only by post and not by email ?
I just had a change of address after the exam, I hope, I have not received any and if I did it is for the most minor discretion like in this case.
 
Would they send out PCP letters 2 weeks before the exam? I hope note! Puneet would have got it late because being in India there could be a postal delay inevitably!
But if I were you, I would update my address on the institute website. Its better to be safe than sorry!
 
I got it by post. The letter was dated July 6, 2012 but I received it on July 11, 2012.
I have my updated address on the institute website.
But still I am asking you is there any chance of it affecting my exam result??
 
I, Puneet Singal from India cleared my CFA Level 2 Exam (June, 2012) and CFA Level 1 Exam (Dec, 2011). I gave both Level 1 and Level 2 in India.
Now while registering for CFA Level 3 Exam, I have a query. If I opt for Singapore or London as my Test Centre for CFA Level 3 Exam in June, 2012 and I manage to clear it, will it help me in getting a job in these countries??
Will I get membership of CFA Societies of Singapore or London if I manage to clear the exam??
Can someone please throw some light on this?
 
I dont know about the membership, maybe the board members of the forum would know it.
But I dont know if writing the L3 exam in London/Singapore gives any advantage to get a job in these countries. Irrespective of where you clear the three exams your job chances are same. A certification is a certification irrespective of were you write it anyway!

Still have no idea why people believe they can bring what ever they want in the exam.
There’s like 10 things you can bring and nothing more. Is that so hard?
And the number of people in Level 1 who bring scientific calculators astounds me!
 
No advantage taking the exam in any test centre and membership for local societies requires sponsorship from a member of the society. You’ll need a sponsor in any case as you are required to apply for local society membership at the same time as Institute membership
