CFAI material IN..

I dont know how much will you agree on this but I will use CFAI material for next exam (I dont know whether it will be Level I or Level II though).

Schweser sucks.
 
a friend at work said that the cfai is now requiring the purchase of their materials when you register for the test... i tend to believe him b/c he's a lIIer...anyone know if there's any truth to that?
 
it's true. beginning next year, i think.. i saw it on their website..
 
going forward (as of 2008) they'll include their curriculum as part of the registration fee.

I find it amusing when people rely on hearsay rather than take 2 min to check the original source of info (i.e. the CFAI website)

wow, that's crazy- how much are the CFA books normally? a few hundred? so to just sign up for the test you're dropping quite a bit. hmm... i guess that would make me think twice about buying schweser except for q-bank and maybe book 6/7 or whatever it is for level 2.

sopranos was insane tonight- whoa. i love that show and will be sad when it's over also. i need the wire to come back- best show on tv.
 
the CFAI material is WAY too much material. Think about it, Schweser had condensed it into 5 books averaging about 250 pages and it was all vital information...I could only imagine how big the CFAI textbooks are.
 
But I think Schweser is sufficient. If you study Schweser well, no problem for a pass. However no book will tell you directly the answer of a question. Understanding is the key to handle any new/strange questions created each year.
 
Actually, the CFAI says that there are 2,400 pages of material so schweser is about half of that.
 
I'll have another post about how I passed level I (yes... I'm that confident), but the short answer is that if you really want to pass you'll use the material as intended, which is to read the CFAI material and use Schweser as a review tool.

You might get by with less. But then again, you also might part of the majority of people who just failed level I last Saturday. Or you might be one of those people who was actually stressed about the exam last week. Read both and be neither, say I.

CFAI Books: $360
Schweser (Essential Package: QBank + Notes+Book7): $549

Total Cost to take CFA exam = $1,669

Seeing "Level 1: Pass" in January...priceless

Seriously, less than $2000 per year for a graduate level program is not a biggie. So what if CFAI requires you to buy the material with registration from now on.

If you are a college student, compare these costs to what you are paying for tution at school. If you are working in the financial feild...most of the firms pick up some of the basic tab atleast...why do you care.
