CFAI Question Bank

I just got off the phone with CFA Institute and asked them if there were any changes in 2014 that I should consider before buying prep. provider packages.
The individual I spoke with said that the CFA Institute is developing a question bank that will have topical assessments, and will be available to candidates around October. Apparently, it will also be able to randomly pull questions and create mock exams.
 
I believe they said it was included as part of registration. This is supposed to replace the free mock exam they used to offer. If someone wants to call and confirm, please do - and any additional details would be appreciated.

I will believe it when I see it. The GMAT guys introduced something like this and such software qbanks, more so if they are free, would be prone to glitches in the initial years anyway- I’d rather they stick to regular simple pdfs of mocks than some software.
 
Actually, the QBank-thingy is mentioned in the CFA books (but I did not believe it)… page x, the stuff with “how to prepare, what to know” etc.
As the next paragraph on the same page deals with the mock exams, I do not think these QBank will replace the mocks. Or let’s just say: I hope they will not.
Neverthless, thanks for asking at CFAI. After reading about the QBank I wanted to ask here in the forum, just to make sure. But you already answered the question before I could ask. :-)

I have copied the relevant info from the page below.
“For the June 2014 exam, your registration fee includes access to the curriculum eBook for your exam level and supplemental study tools, including mock exams, topic-based practice assessments, and an interactive study planner (supplemental study tools available October 2013). A print version of the June 2014 curriculum may be purchased separately** (login required).”
I think CFAI will provide us the below this time:
1. Print copy of CFA curriculum notes.
2. Ebook of CFA curriculum notes. (This year it seems that they will provide this for free as opposed to previous years when they charged additional $30)
3. Mock Exams
4. Topic-based practice assessments (New supplemental study tool)
5. Intereactive study planner. (New supplemental study tool)
