Is anyone familiar with a reasonable suggestion as to how many hours are recommended to study for the CFP exam? I’ve spent about an hour searching AF and CFP.net and haven’t found anything of this sort. I work in PWM (so this is relevant) and am a CFA charterholder so I don’t need to do the education requirement. I thought the 250 hour per exam recommendation was fair for the CFA exams. thanks

I don’t know, but I seem to recall that if you’re a CFA Charterholder, you are exempted from some of the stuff. Did you find something like that, boston?

yeah, you are exempt from the education requirement but I believe are responsible for 100% of the exam material.

I’m a charterholder and took and passed the November, 2008 CFP exam.
As far as total hours studying, I’d say I spent 100-150ish. The only “new” things were some of the retirement plan material and income tax material. Depending on your familiarity with estate planning, tax, insurance, etc. anywhere from 100-200 should be good.
You should be able to ace the investments section (20% of the exam) by flipping through a review book.

I would agree with The.Unit.Root. I am a level III candidate and have the CFP, but I took it first. I put it on par (or close to) the level I exam. If you are already a charterholder than I would say 100-150 is a good estimate.
