How do you change your career from risk management to more exciting fields like HF, IB, or AM?

how do you explain that on your essays?

def. not. But can you actually write that the reason why i'm apply to this school is to chage my career? i don't think so.

Sure, why not? And it's not such a huge change. You're looking for a change of function, not a change of industry, or even career.

Why the heck not? They ask for why, you tell them that I am taking MBA so it can help me to change my career.

bhs, what part of risk management do you not like? I will be starting a new position in risk very shortly. What aspects do you like?

To me, risk management is kinda boring. It's all about statitistics and I wanna do something that's more upbeat, fast paced and has a lot of upside potential like being a trader.

errr thats exactly what an MBA is for, many of the MBA programs will tell you that if you go to an info session.

For a drastic career change, eg, from being a high school teacher to being in Sell side ER< they push you towards the full time program. There, they will help you get into an internship role after your first year during which you can impress prospective employers and break away from your past.

For a change of role/function or just to move up, you are generally better off with a part time program as the extra experience, contacts, and pay ends up being a better ROI. Most of the school info sessions at top programs I went to all agreed on this (except the oens without p/t programs, they obviously dont blv in p/t)

Just about every MBA program application I looked at asked how I planned on using the MBA to further my career. This is exactly what you need to put down, although they would prefer a concrete plan (even if you dont end up following it, they want you to have a plan).

it depends on current role, and what you want to accomplish. I am inclined to say at 50, it would be difficult (not impossible) to see how a MBA could help.
