Hi everyone. I am currently a business undergraduate thinking about major in Finance. After done some research, i found that it's hard to get into finance career if you do not have accounting certificate to get into entry level finance jobs.

Thus, I planned to take a CMA while I am in university first and then later on getting a CFA certificate. Does it sound reasonable? Since my final purpose is getting a CFA, does getting a CMA really help?

Also, if taking CMA is reasonable, since i am currently leaving in Canada, which CMA (CMA Canada or CMA from IMA) should I take if I want to have a international recognized certificate and has the possibility working in either Canada, US, or China after I graduate.

Thank you very much!

first off - you spelled your name rong...

second - CMA is waste of time....

first..=.= I did spell my name RIGHT!

second..can u tell me why CMA is a waste of time?! although it's more geer toward accounting, it should be helpful in someway

third..sorri, my mistake..CFA should be a charterholder, CMA is a certificate holder.

To Danteshek..nope, i am in Canada

CMA, like all desig. requires work experience. Not 100% sure (my buddy is doing it), but I believe the CMA requires some management type experience, but how strictly they define that, I don't know. Bottom line is don't chase designations to get into finance. Read some other threads here about how people took the non-conventional way to break in.

Plus, CMA is friggin expensive, all in.

CMA is great, so is the CFA...but without brushing up on your English and speaking skills, no one will give a @#$%& if you are CA/CFA/CMA/CGA/CPA/CBA/MBA/PHD

No offence, i see tons of well educated people on my floor, and majority of them will never get to where they "deserve" to be with their credentials. Just my two cents + rant.

the reason people are probably telling you that CMA is a waste is that if you want to work in finance it will add little value unless your doing like fund accounting or something along those lines...
