Dec 04 LI exam too late?

Hello all,

Originally I was planning on taking this exam in june of 05. After more concideration I have thought about taking it in Dec 04. Is it to late in the game to get in on this exam? I noticed that the AIMR website says it takes like 6 weeks to process and applicant. I am not sure that is true or not.

My other questions is for those who have used Schweser or stalla. Do you still need to purchase the books that AIMR recomends?

I submitted the application online and my application was processed immediately and I got an acceptance letter from them in just two days.

I purchased all the presicribed texts from AIMR but I have never touched them yet. I have been only studying from Schweser notes since it is easily understandable. But even Schweser suggests that we buy the texts prescribed by AIMR.



We never plan to fail, but only fail to plan !
 
Are you lucky enough to have a December test center nearby?
 
Buying all of the textbooks is in some ways a waste of money.

In all likelihood you'll not have time to actually read the assigned chapters. Study materials are the way to go. It's nice to have the texts for reference, but I bought them all and then didn't even touch them.
 
Thanks for the advice guys. I think I will register for the Dec 04 test, buy the study materials, and text books as need be. Fortunately I do live near one of the test center cities that is listed.

And you passed with flying colors? IMO, this is terrible advice. Failing is not an option, and money is not an issue. Buy the notes and texts, read everything and walk into the test center with confidence

<Waste of money> - $600? Come on.
 
Buy all the text books, they are great for reading on your spare time. I just love breaking out Fabozzi's book on fixed income while I am in the can. Just think, you can study and do your duties at the same time, this will train you to be time efficient on the real exam. ;-) (sarcasm)

We'll see if I passed or not. I just took the test.

My point is that for those of us who work 11-12 hours per day (and I'm not suggesting you don't, I don't know) there is not enough time in the day to read every chapter from the texts and at the same time keep your sanity.

I went through all of my stalla texts and occassionaly would peruse the real texts.

In my opinion it's just too much to do both if you work full time and your mind is fried by the time you get home from work.
 
Well, if you have time, then why not just read some books if not all. I would suggest at least buy the one on ethics and read it once only after reading the notes. Read any chapters only after reading the notes; it would make lot more sense and make reading easier.
 
I studied for 2 months (1 month seriously). You have enough time to read all the texts and notes 5 times over for the December exam if you start today. The reality is you do not need to read the texts at all. Dont waste your money.
