so im taking L1 this Saturday, and I was looking into how long it takes for them to grade the test. It essentially said two months. So if u plan on taking June L2 if you pass, how would that work? id imagine theres a good amount of ppl on the same boat here. Do you just sit back and wait till the end of January to find out if you passed, and then wait even longer from then to wait for your books and shit? Or do you start studying with study aides in late Dec b4 u even no if u passed for sure? It seems like starting in Feb is kinda late but at the same time its kinda silly to start studying b4 u no if ur even eligible to take it, lol. Thoughts? Id imagine theres no way to get your grades any faster. btw, taking 2 months to grade a mutiple choice test makes about as much sense as offering this thing only once a year….but thats another dicussion entirely

I will take a break and go for L2 in 2013 summer. I think it will be some kind of suicide taking L2 this summer…

Yes, i m in the same situation as you, i think we will have to wait till the results and then start to study again for level 2 in June. Anyway i think it will be good a break to rest. someone knows if it takes the same time to grade the exams as in June? i mean December its just for Level 1, maybe we dont have to wait that long..

The time line should be on the CFA website. For previous December exams, results were released in early February or so.

shit, with the exception of walking out of there thinking theres no way i passed, ill prob start L2 in late December. I wont buy a study package till I find the results though. Just like look up the first book on-line and print it and start from there to save money. Because theres no way L2 will work if i start in February. Besides, if im taking L1 again in June im only gonna put in like a week of work cuz i read everything already. And if i did find out I passed, ill already b a month into the L2 material then. Honestly, if i was in school or had a job id just say fuck it and do the next June regardless, but this is my only salvation right now in terms of being productive “career-wise” so might as well.

my advice –
I took Lv 1 Dec 10, and Lv2 June 11. passed both
You will receive your Lv1 exam scores around January 25/26th i believe. I ordered my books as soon as i got my pass and started studying for Lv2 right after super bowl weekend. (Fed 4th ish)
IT IS POSSIBLE - Iv done it.
That being said, i spent many many days working 7-5 and studying 6-midnight or later. Lv2 is a completely different animal. its by far hardest exam iv ever taken. If you can put away ur social life for 3 or so months and stay focused on ur goals its possible. Focus is key - i found my self very burnt out the last month, the last week i almost couldn’t even read anymore and would get headaches. last 3 days i didn’t read a thing as i had nothing left.
but after passing Lv2 in June, there was so much relieve knowing I’m almost there and looking back, it was well worth the 3 months of struggling. as Im 6 months away from completing this.
stay focused on ur goals. If you want it bad enough . go for June 2012
Good luck Saturday

Use the time waiting for results to recharge and forget about CFA for awhile. The temptation will be there to get a head start on studying, but the truth is, burnout is going to be your biggest enemy by June.

Depends how much time you have on your hands & your desire to get both done. I did the same as Johnnyboy and it was brutal, but I had the time, especially at my job as i could study at work, I was living with my parents in suburbia so my social life wasn’t exactly happening. I was nuts and started studying right after the test by buying old CFAI books on amazon for a few bucks. If you feel like after L1 you need a break then by all means go out and have a life for the spring and just do the test next year. Good luck on Saturday.

I’m with ya…I sit for L1 Saturday then will have to take my series 7 and 66 (required for my new role) by results time so I can begin studying for L2 hopefully, so burning out is not exactly an option plus the 7 and 66 should be cake compared to L1…I figure put as much into L2 as possible and if I get through it amazing and if not at least I experienced the actual exam and have an idea as to what to expect and what is needed for round #2. Good luck. Hopefully we’ll both be sitting for L2 in June. Cheers.
