Obviously can’t go in to too much detail here, but I was highly disappointed at the general lack of coverage of some of the major topics in the curriculum, and then a decent amount of in-depth questions regarding some rather obscure stuff. Also, IMO the difficulty level from the AM to PM session was night and day. I was feeling damn good on lunch break, and left the afternoon with an overall feeling of despair. Now it’s a waiting game.

Totally agree ^
Several major topics in most areas completly missed out. Espeically the heavy weighting areas, then questions on areas you would only know if you read every book cover to cover.
Frustrating to say the least!

+1 thought they tested some pretty obscure, useless material at the expense of more important, useful material. I guess everything is fair game but I believe the CFAI should have tested the major topics in a more difficult way, and underweighted the more obscure stuff.
C’est la vie I guess…

This is part of the game, I had the same feeling last year but this year I can accept that this is just how it is. I would personally rather they ask all the major stuff in the material and raise the MPS rather than putting random obscure things and having it be lower.

no i thought the main stuff was covered. yes there were some obscure stuff but that was expected in every L2 exam. These only represent a small portion.

completely agree. there were DEF some MAJOR topics left out from a few of the readings, and in particular, I was very disappointed to see an item set based on an appendix. I don’t think that is going into any detail on particular questions, I hope.. but really, an appendix?? OK cfai I see you.. I’ll know for next time that every square inch of those 3000 pages are fair game and the topics seemingly stressed in certain readings and EOCs aren’t necessarily important..

What topics were obsucre? I haven’t felt that way at all. I hope you don’t mean the PM FI vignette, that was a whole reading in itself.

Really? You read the appendices? Impressive. This takes me back to college when one of the questions on an econ final exam was a footnote on page 300 or some such.

I don’t, hence my disappointment..

Agreed. I spent most of the last month honing up on the heavliy weighted topics. I felt solid coming in but was rather disappointed with some of the material they chose to test. Everything is fair game and it was a fair exam as far as difficulty level, but I struggled :/ It could make it or break it for me.

CFAI wouldn’t test an appendix if it was not listed as part of the LOS. I would suggest you re-confirm what I have just said from the blue boxes of the particular reading/topic you were implying. I know the topic you have in mind anyway.

I did not do as many mocks as I originally had planned but invested a lot of time memorizing a lot of stuff, even the dullest pieces of blurbs. I can say that strategy proved helpful on some of the qualitative questions. But I got cornered in one of them, in one particular reading I had missed because I relied on last year’s Schweser and the topic was new this year.
I discovered my omission on Friday actually and had done a speedy brush, so my answer turned out to be more of a loosely-educated guess rather than a pure guess.

it was in the LOS…i’m still disappointed to see an item set based around an appendix, regardless. when there was much bigger topics not even on the exam…that’s all.

There was not an item set based around an appendix.. I can pretty much guarantee that to be the case

we had different exams then.
when i say “based around” i mean 2 questions.

There absolutely was. That particular part was covered extensively in Schweser though and not listed as an appendix, so if you studied from that I don’t think it took you by surprise.

Defintely an appendix but it’s listed on the LOS and is fair game. Really easy gimme marks if you went over it.

this is a business, it isn’t in their interest for you to pass.. thats why I think they test the most ridiculously peripheral things… the exam was a joke, it was so straight forward compared to the online assessments and mocks provided…
